Strike Awarded With APWA Project Of The Year

Strike was recently selected for an American Public Works Association (APWA) Texas Chapter Project of the Year for 2016. The award is for the work completed on the Sabine-Neches Waterway Direct Pipe Project.

In order to supply adequate water supply to its residents, Strike was contracted to complete a 3,500-foot direct pipe installation of 48-inch casing for the City of Port Arthur, Texas. 30-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) was installed inside the casing to transport the city water. The installation was done underneath an existing levy, maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The 48-inch diameter steel encasement pipe was installed approximately 50-feet below the bottom of the ship channel, using the direct pipe trenchless construction method. Pre-project planning included extensive geo-technical analysis, to ensure that the construction would not damage or weaken the levy.

The superintendent on this project was Danny McGraw, and the project manager was Chase Sorrels. Congratulations to everyone involved!
