Job Summary:

The Vice President, Fleet Operations is responsible for executive level operations of a $200M Equipment and Truck Fleet.  This role will serve as the subject matter expert in equipment maintenance and is responsible for managing the life of Strike’s approximately 5,000 assets comprised of construction equipment and rolling stock.  The Vice President, Fleet Operations is responsible for establishing standards, driving performance, and managing Fleet and Equipment operations to positively impact all phases of the construction process. The Vice President, Fleet Operations will consistently incorporate and reinforce the company’s safety initiatives into departmental operations and will oversee the entire Fleet and Equipment team at the corporate and field levels.

Primary Job Function:

  • General
  • Direct daily business operations for all of Strike’s Fleet and Equipment operations including productivity initiatives, managing labor costs, and resource planning.
  • Develop and oversee General Equipment and Fleet strategy, including acquisition and disposition of fleet assets, equipment rentals, and use of 3rd party contractors.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all divisions of Strike to ensure compliance with set standards and that all Equipment needs are met
  • Manage an Equipment and Fleet P & L budget of over $200M annually.
  • People
  • Oversee and manage a team which includes but is not limited to Equipment Manager, Fleet Manager, Fleet Maintenance Manager, Chief Mechanic Manager, Chief Mechanics, Mechanics, Technicians and Helpers.
  • Develop, implement and manage hiring standards for all levels of the team to include the Chief Mechanic Manager, Chief Mechanics, Mechanics, Technicians and Helpers regarding qualifications and/or certifications.
  • Direct oversight of the DOT Compliance Department
  • Process
  • Develop, standardize, and maintain all Equipment and Fleet maintenance.  This includes responsibility for maintaining and managing the deployment of the Fleet across the US with a staff of over 100 Mechanics and Administrators.
  • Oversee Fleet Logistics operations for Strike’s Heavy Haul Truck Fleet of over 25 trucks and drivers.
  • Manage Equipment and Fleet Safety and Compliance to include managing and implementing driver safety programs as well as implementing best in class safety tools for Strike’s Fleet
  • Oversee software maintenance and implementation throughout the vehicle procurement and maintenance operation.
  • Oversight of the company-wide telematics program via Telogis platform

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience working in an equipment management role to include responsibility for department budgets, and capital expenditure programs.
  • Management experience overseeing a construction equipment fleet including responsibility for department budgets, and capital expenditure programs is preferred.
  • Proven experience in vendor selection, relationship development, negotiations and accountability capabilities.
  • Operations management of multiple locations.
  • 7 + years of experience managing a team.
  • In depth understanding of equipment maintenance and the associated financial impact of best practices / efficient processes.
  • Experience with industry software systems.
  • Understanding of life cycle analysis, used equipment disposal.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a technical or engineering focus is preferred.
